St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT, my alma mater, has commissioned me to write two pieces for brass quintet for their Presidential Inauguration and Academic Convocation on Sept 28 and 29. One piece “Centennial Hymn” was written in 2004 for a larger brass ensemble and is being revised and updated for this occasion, which will be its premiere performance. The other will be a setting of the school song with a newly composed fanfare. There is also talk of a short piano piece for the Convocation as well as the performance of a choral setting of the Emily Dickinson poem “Hope Feathers,” completed in 2006. Very exciting!

The live recording of a cue I did from “Bruce Almighty” has been posted on the Film Music page (I am working to get the audio with the actual film footage). And I finally have pictures up on the Photos page. Enjoy!

A performance by the Second Instrumental Unit of my newest work will take place at Queens College on Tuesday, May 15th at 7:30 in the LeFrak Concert Hall. The work is a setting of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 12 for Soprano, Tenor, Violin, Cello, and 2 Guitars. The concert is free, open to the public, and is followed by a killer reception with great food.

I received news today that I have been accepted to the ASCAP/NYU Film Scoring Workshop, which takes place at NYU from May 15-25. Participants get to choose a clip provided by the workshop and go through the whole process of scoring it while receiving guidance and advice from the workshop’s accomplished faculty as well as guest lecturers. The best part? The session ends with me conducting a LIVE orchestra in the performance of my score. All composers walk away with a professionally performed and recorded DVD of our clip. Needless to say, I am ridiculously excited!!

C. F. Peters is a music publishing company that has been around for over 200 years. Those of you who are familiar with published music will recognize their classic colophon marked “Edition Peters”. I have had the pleasure of working for the company part-time since October, doing numerous jobs involving scanning and printing new music, rights issues, and general administrative tasks. I have just accepted a full time position that will begin in June after I graduate from Queens. It has proven to be a good company with a fantastic staff - can’t wait to start!
