I’ve found an amazing pair of designers here in LA who have been working with me to create a brand new, ridiculously beautiful website and PR materials. I gotta tell ya, I am really excited – the designers are going above and beyond to make the site top notch. Launch is scheduled for mid April. Will post more details as we get closer.

Gwinna Premieres on the West Coast

Violist Andrew Duckles has programmed Gwinna on two concerts in Los Angeles. He will be joined by harpist Allison Bjorkedal and flutist Boglarka Kiss. I am very thrilled and honored to have my music be played by such such accomplished musicians here in LA. Hope to see you at one of the concerts!

Mentorship with Thomas Newman

Every year the Thornton School of Music offers one on one mentorships with the members of their advisory board. I received word today that I was one of five people in the film scoring program to receive one of these opportunities. My mentor is Thomas Newman, who has long been one of my heroes as I greatly admire his distinct voice and intimate approach to orchestration. For those of you who might not recognize his name, his film credits include WallE, Finding Nemo, The Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, Angels in America, and many many more. I am completely beside myself with this news and will keep everyone posted with developments.

EAMA Prize

Today I received word that Gwinna, my piece for flute, viola, and singing harpist, was awarded Honorable Mention for the 2009 EAMA Prize. No grand prize was given this year – only 5 were chosen for mention from the 150 applicants. Every year the prize is awarded to a “musical composition of profound artistic message, possessing a unique musical voice, and demonstrating clear, direct power of communication”. Considering this was exactly my goal in writing Gwinna and in fact all of my music, not to mention that I attended EAMA in 2006, this is a particularly meaningful recognition for me. New Clip Posted

After my first week at the SMPTV program, we have already finished a clip using Logic Pro. Click here to see this clip on You Tube. It was quite a thrilling exercise for me – already I am feeling like I have made a huge leap forward in understanding what it is I need to know and employ to create professional music for picture. Very exciting times up in here. I am currently constructing a blog for USC and bringing it up to date. I will post the link here when I get it together.

In Los Angeles!

Forgive the immense lapse in updates. Since my last post I have relocated to LA and am now happily situated in an apartment in Glendale with a great roommate who is also entering the USC program. First day of classes is August 5. We recently received an email from the director describing to us all the opportunities we will have this year, including over 100 available projects from the film school and the chance to work on an episode of LOST with Michael Giacchino. Needless to say, I am totally pumped to start. I will be blogging about my experiences at USC and will post a link here once it is up and running. Thanks for your continued support!

USC Fall 2009

Last weekend I received word that I have been accepted for Fall 2009 admission in the USC Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television Certificate Program. It is the most coveted and well-known program of its kind. Located in the heart of the film industry, it is taught by and connected with working professionals. This means I will be relocating to the west coast and taking the plunge. How very exciting!!!
